Where to make room for extra storage in your home

For a lot of homeowners, especially those with kids, finding adequate storage is a huge factor when looking for a home. And, for those already settled it is often among one of the most frustrating problems to deal with on a day-to-day basis. So, here are some easy tips that will help you to find extra space and make the most of every room in your home.

The Pantry

Create room in your pantry by getting rid of any oversized and awkward food packaging. Instead, purchase clear, air-tight containers and label with either chalk or wipe-board markers. Make note of not only the product name but also the nutritional facts, and expiration date.

If, like many, you like to buy in bulk, but the bulk of your paper goods in another location. Then simply, restock as needed.

The Kitchen

Pots and pans can be a pain to store if you don’t have a large kitchen. If this is the case for you then consider storing pots, pans, and other durable items, on their sides like files. This simple step will not only create more room, but it will also make it easy for you to see exactly what you have and what you need.

Baby’s Closet

Ask yourself one question, is there room to add another bar? Although this wont be a permanent solution, for the time being why not take advantage of the fact that baby clothing is smaller and if you can, add an additional bar. This will allow you  to hang the clothing to maximise space. You can even buy pre made closet organisers that you can customise in order to make the most out of baby’s closet.

Remember, the trick to creating more space in your home, is to get rid of things that you don’t need anymore. If you find you have extra things around that you aren’t using, maybe throw pillows, blankets, frames, dishes, clothes – whatever you have – consider inviting friends over and throwing a reverse housewarming party!  What is a reverse housewarming party you ask? Well, basically instead of having your friends bring a housewarming gift, they take something home with them! Try it today! Happy decluttering!
